Kath Albiston is an independent consultant and trainer specialising in genderbased violence, domestic and familial abuse, criminal justice, and safeguarding. She began her career as a Probation Officer, working extensively with both perpetrators and victims of domestic abuse. In this role she delivered behaviourchange interventions, undertook complex risk assessments for criminal courts and parole boards, and held early leadership responsibilities as Chairperson of a local MultiAgency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) Unit, coordinating multiagency risk management planning for highrisk individuals.Following her work in Probation, Kath established an independent consultancy and training organisation, through which she has led a wide range of projects focused on domestic abuse, risk, and safeguarding. She has chaired and authored numerous Domestic Homicide Reviews, Safeguarding Adults Reviews, and Serious Case Reviews, with a strong emphasis on improving systemic practice and multiagency responses. Her portfolio also includes providing clinical supervision to professionals in highrisk roles, designing and delivering training across statutory and thirdsector organisations, and developing and evaluating policies, procedures and risk assessment frameworks.Kath currently also works parttime as an independent specialist risk assessor and Clinical Manager (Programmes) for DVACTPAI. She brings more than a decade of experience as an expert assessor in care proceedings and oversees the clinical delivery of intervention programmes for perpetrators of abuse, as well as programmes supporting mothers in child protection processes who have experienced abuse.Internationally, Kath collaborates with the Working with Perpetrators – European Network (WWPEN), contributing to capacitybuilding initiatives, accreditation, grant evaluation, and mentoring across Europe. She served as lead trainer on a fivemonth programme supporting the development of perpetrator interventions in Ukraine and is currently working in collaboration with Prison and Probation services in Georgia on the revision of national perpetrator programmes.
